Support can grow throughout the race. Fundraising does not change cleanup scores. Tonnage ranking is shown here; final judging rules and supporter rewards are still to be confirmed. M-Pesa and Visa/Mastercard are planned; payments are not connected.

The river becomes
the playing field.

Rhinos and Zebras work the same river section and both banks, recover and sort waste, and score through verified weigh-ins. A live public map turns every kilogram and every metre reclaimed into a story the whole world can follow.

Submission requirements & review criteria

A plan we can build.

Apply to solve one defined part of the challenge. Submit the complete online form and a detailed PDF by 18 November 2026 · 11:59 PM EAT (Nairobi). No applicant login is required. A short idea pitch alone is not a complete proposal.

Your required PDF

Recommended length: 5–8 pages, plus diagrams or appendices as needed. Maximum 10 MB. Use these headings:

  1. Executive summary: problem, beneficiaries and measurable impact.
  2. Event purpose and engineering role: why the Games need this solution and how it makes the event measurable, safe, repeatable or engaging.
  3. Wider applications and transferability: specific uses beyond the river race, including what transfers and what must be adapted.
  4. Race integration: operating sequence, shared-arena workflow and system interfaces.
  5. Technical design: labelled diagrams, drawings, architecture or bill of materials.
  6. Field operations: staffing, power, connectivity, maintenance and failure recovery.
  7. Risk register: safety, privacy, environmental controls and required approvals.
  8. Implementation schedule: milestones, accountable owners and field readiness.
  9. Budget: itemized costs, currency, contingency, funding and recurring costs.
  10. Team: relevant experience, responsibilities and capacity gaps.
  11. Test plan: numeric pass/fail targets, test method, evidence and sign-off.
  12. Dependencies, ownership, handover and repeat-event scalability.

Design for the actual event

The working concept has two teams collecting in the same river section, using both banks and separate collection carts, followed by a controlled final haul and verified weighing. The presentation is on 21 November 2026; the first race episode is targeted for February 2027. Its exact day, course, loads and scoring remain subject to organizer and specialist approval. List assumptions explicitly and explain how you will validate them.

Identify hazardous waste requiring specialist crews and any approvals needed before field trials. No proposal authorizes unsafe river access or unapproved equipment operation.

How proposals will be reviewed

Before the full application, a short AI fit check confirms that applicants understand the event and can identify credible uses beyond the race. At the final step, the uploaded PDF is automatically reviewed against every required area. Missing or underdeveloped sections must be corrected before submission. This is a completeness screen—not engineering approval, safety certification or final selection.

ENGINEERING IMPLEMENTATION PROPOSAL18 November 2026 · 11:59 PM EAT (Nairobi)

Step 1 of 7 · Fit check

Show that your idea fits the Games.

This is not simply a river-cleanup volunteer day. It is a measurable, repeatable competition that needs engineering systems for safety, verification, logistics, storytelling and scale. Complete this short check before opening the full application.

The AI check evaluates understanding and transferability, not whether you will be selected. No login is needed. Drafts are not saved if you refresh.

The complete form and AI-approved PDF must arrive by the deadline. After submission, download your application with its assigned number. If submission fails, your entries remain on this page; do not refresh.

High-fit Nairobi targets for the premiere event.

Prospective targets · No affiliation or endorsement implied
Suggested media partners

Local reach, live production and human storytelling.

Connectivity

Phones, data, airtime and mobile payments

Help equip River Warriors with phones and airtime, support low-data tracking, and connect team contributions through M-Pesa and card payments. Payment services and field connectivity still need to be arranged.

Apparel

Team uniforms designed and made in Kenya

Local designers and manufacturers can create Rhino and Zebra team kits, durable workwear and supporter merchandise. Clothing should suit the field conditions and work with the protective equipment specified by the safety team.

Riverfront

Developers sponsor the zones they call home

Riverfront developers, architects and landscape designers can support cleanup, safe access and long-term maintenance. Proposals can include landscaping and public-space improvements, subject to site surveys and the necessary approvals.

Broadcast

Local producers turn field action into a sports story

Filmmakers, presenters, film schools and production teams can capture the competitors’ stories, explain the scores and produce highlights and stage episodes. Selected live segments and helmet-camera coverage are future possibilities.

Recycling

Recycling offtake and material traceability

Recyclers and logistics partners can help define sorting standards, collection bags, weighing, transport and documented destinations for recovered materials. Buyer commitments, material acceptance and prices must be agreed before the event.
